The Training Guide

The Destination Management package should be used to help local tourism entities better plan and strategize their destination development. It focuses on key destination management principles to build on from what participants already know from managing their tourism destinations and helps them to strengthen the tourism business enabling environment. It is ideal to be participated by a healthy mix of public and private sector entities, each bringing different perspectives to the table.  As an example, a group can consist of an airline company, taxi company, tourism authorities, tour operators, tour guides associations and tourism institutes. It is recommended that a Destination Management group to deal with one region/destination (consisting of several attractions). For Example, for Da Nang Region, for Sabang Island, etc.

Utilising Destination Management modules, participants will have systematized view of local economic development strategy, especially for tourism sector, and will eventually have better ideas in extending capacity buildings for different types or cluster of enterprises making up the whole Tourism Value Chain in one area.

Destination Management is best followed up with a series of other SBC modules at the enterprise level. At the end of the training participants will have:

  • Enhanced and advanced existing knowledge on destination management development
  • Strengthened critical competences to analyse current conditions of work
  • Better tourism strategy and network
  • Decided on actions for the future

The Good Practice Guide:

During the training day participants will be introduced to and become familiar with the Good Practice Guide (GPG), which they will then be able to use to further their learning and to support them in setting up or improving their businesses. The GPG contains best practices, tools and extra activities that supplement those covered in the training to further support the participants in setting up or improving their businesses.
